UP CLOSE & PERSONAL:
JP: What's the funniest nickname you're ever been called?
DG: Everyone thinks "Derelict" is funny, like from Zoolander, but it's not, because it's not original. Everyone thinks they are so clever. And my sister used to call me "Derelica," which I guess is the female version of my name... but that's not really funny either. I need a new nickname bad.
JP: What (board) did you ride your very first time in the water?
DG: That would be the flight 69 by waketech. But not the original one, the purple one that came right after. I wasn't afraid of the purple.
JP: What are you riding now?
DG: I'm riding the Trevor Hansen pro model Marius 140 by CWB, with some fatty size, large fuses and a whole bunch of stickers.
JP: If you couldn't be a pro wakeboarder, what would you want to be?
DG: I guess that would have to be a person who gets paid to have fun.
JP: Would you rather have a maid or a personal chef?
DG: Personal chef for sure. I like cleaning - it makes me feel productive. But I never cook and don't really like to. I always go pick food up.
JP: How many hours a week do you train/work out?
DG: That's a toughy... I ride 2 or 3 times a day, and maybe I go skate or ride dirtbikes, but that's not really training. I don't like that word.
JP: What's your all-time favorite candy?
DG: Razzles...first it's a candy... then it's a gum. Enough said.
JP: Describe your ideal wakeboarding spot:
DG: Lake Winderset, Winter Haven, FL. When the wind is good and the sun is out.
JP: If you could "beam" yourself and 5 friends anywhere in the world, right this minute, what destination would you pick?
DG: Not Panama City or Daytona Beach, FL. Don't go there. Probably somewhere like Athens or something, that's the only place I really want to go.
JP: Do you have an "inny" or an "outty?"
DG: Inny, but it's a good one, nice and deep
JP: What's your hands-down favorite Jet Pilot product?
DG: Black on Black Falcon Vest. That vest is ridiculously awesome. I like it.
JP: What's your "lucky charm" or lucky ritual you do before you compete?
DG: Right foot in first, and then make sure my shorts are tied good.
JP: How many house plants have you killed in the past year?
DG: That's a dead one outside my front door... is that a house plant?
JP: Name one of your heroes:
DG: Jesus
OTHER STUFF:
A definite tour threat in 2007, Derek has put his modeling career on the back burner & is (NOT training, 'cuz he hates that word, but he's) riding hard. (or hardly training, we're not 100% sure..ha ha) Derek's ushering in a new era of refined, polished and very well rounded riding styles... In other words, the kid is on point, he's down with us and yo azz betta' watch out!
