Farthing Continues To Dominate The APBA

Without a doubt, when it comes to racing personal watercraft, Dustin Farthing is not only the man, but the man to beat. The only problem is…nobody seems to be able to do so. Farthing, with his Monster Energy, Vortech supercharged, Mountain Motorsports Ultra 250 Kawasaki PWC is an unstoppable juggernaut in the water and hes loving every minute of it.

This stop on the Farthing Domination Tour 2010 was at the Hydro-Turf APBA Nationals in Colonial Beach, VA on August 7th-8th where Dustin posted 4 first place finishes at the two day event. "My Vortech Supercharged Kawasaki boat performed flawlessly over the entire weekend" Dustin said. "With all the supercharged offerings from Yamaha and SeaDoo the competition is getting more difficult all the time, but my Kawi just had tons of power and out classed everything else in the water".

Dustin takes a time out to sign autographs for his fans.

Dustin is also running all season in Jetpilot's new "Apex Race Series" set up, which includes a Johh, Jacket & USCGA 100 MPH Rated Vest.  The whole series is new and designed specifically for Watercraft Racing.  The shots above show Dustin in his 2010 "Green Camo" signature set up but his new 2011 Red/White/Blue colors will be on the water next week, keep an eye out!

Dustin wanted to thank his fans, his crew and his sponsors – Monster Energy, Kawasaki, Jetpilot, Mountain Motorsports, Vortech superchargers, and Phil Farthing.

JP's Dustin Farthing Races The Gumball 3000!

Xzibit with Dustin just before departure....

JP's Dustin Farthing hops on board with Monster Energy and a fresh Lambo to race the Gumball 3000

More info: GUMBALL 3000

CORONA, Calif., – Exotic sports cars worth millions being driven fast by celebrities worth millions more – all hopped up on Monster Energy product – sets the stage for a head turner of a motorsports event when the 12th annual Gumball 3000 kicks off seven days of festive ‘stars & cars’ celebration beginning May 1st in London and featuring more than a dozen kids from the “Make-A-Wish” foundation, then culminating May 7th in New York City.

Some 150 vehicles, ranging from the priceless (Lambos, Bentleys, Ferraris) to the absurd (Monster’s Rob Dyrdek & Big Black entered a rental car in ’04) start the event piloted by a myriad of action sports athletes, rock & rollers and TV and film stars – all racing against a clock that doesn’t exist and a 1st place trophy that’s not there either.

“For the past several years Monster Energy has been one of the most active participants in this unique, somewhat undercover, but one-heck-of-a-good time event,” said Monster Energy’s VP of Marketing Sam Pontrelli. “From the fast cars and drivers to the controlled havoc and major social events surrounding the Gumball 3000, this is the lifestyle that the Monster Energy brand’s all about.”

So far in this year’s rally Monster Energy has a number of its own athletes entered, including: three-time Summer X-Games FMX Best-Trick Gold Medalist Kyle Loza, PWC racer Dustin Farthing, along with professional drivers Andrew Buck and Ireland’s Butsy Butler. “We’re pleased to be back on board with the Gumball and look forward to keeping the drivers wide-eyed with Monster product over the seven days of the event – including the much-lauded after parties,” added Pontrelli.

The U.S.’s stages of the heralded international contest that traverses some 6,000 miles of the globe in seven days, opening in London then hitting Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm before crating up and hitting Boston, Quebec City and Toronto before finishing in NYC.

“I’ve got everything rigged so I can pound my Monster Energy Drinks along the way without having to stop for gas,” says competitor, actor & director Ricky Schroder. “I will then shower the competition with the glorious beverage at the finish line!”

The Gumball 3000 evolved based on the exploits of motorcycle racer “Cannonball” Baker and his incredible 54 hour trans-continental N.Y. to L.A. crossing of the United States – way back in 1933! Some 40 years later “Car & Driver” founder and editor Brock Yates founded a cross country race event that would become the stuff of lore in Hollywood and was the subject of four feature films.

Unfortunately, due to all the attention and, back then and the participants’ disregard for speed limits, the Cannonball Rally was cancelled in 1979. It wasn’t until 1999 that Brit Maximillion Cooper would breathe life back into the rally, resurrecting the event with a certain touch of class (high-brow parties, luxury hotels) and over-the-top flair that has re-kindled its attention with the global media.

“We’re happy to once again have energy drink industry giant Monster Energy on board with the Gumball 3000 and our participants will no doubt find the well-known Monster product handy in keeping them wired and – ideally – safe throughout the length of this big adventure global road trip,” said Cooper. “Best of luck to all the participants and thanks again to Monster Energy for its involvement in the 12th annual Gumball 3000.”

Those not having 100 large laying around (reportedly what it costs to enter the event) nor a Lambo or Bentley in the four-car garage are still welcome to check out then action here in the States, Canada and abroad as all are open to the public. And those wishing to track the Gumball 3000 action online can do so at www.monsterenergy.com,  www.monsterarmy.com, Monster Energy Facebook, www.gumball3000.com

Sea-Doo PWC Set 5 World Records in as Many Months

Sea-Doo PWC set Five World Records in Five Months
Lagopoulos adds two distance records aboard Sea-Doo watercraft in 2009 by riding 286-miles in six-hours and 880-miles in under 24-hours
Text and Photography by BRP

Eric Lagopoulos set two new world records by riding his Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 watercraft further than anyone before him, in six-hours (286 miles/460 km) and 24-hours (880-hours/1416 km) to bring the count of world records, accomplished on BRP's Sea-Doo watercraft in 2009, to five.

Lagopoulos, a professional personal watercraft racer and model from Sarasota, Florida, set the two endurance marks Thursday, November 12, 2009 on Guinness Book of World Records day joining Mike Pagliccia, Juan Felix Bravo, and Dale Vranckx as riders setting new world records in 2009 on Sea Doo watercraft. Pagliccia of Florida set a world record for distance on a personal watercraft by riding his Sea-Doo watercraft 753-miles (1,211 km) in 24 hours to set the new open-water mark two weeks prior. Juan Felix Bravo of Spain set the world record for fastest time to 1000 km by accomplishing that feat in 10 hours, 9 minutes with an astonishing average speed of 61.2 mph (98.5 kph) on his Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 watercraft in July 2009. Dale Vranckx of Ontario, Canada set the overall distance record in 24-hours at 786 miles (1,265 km) aboard Sea-Doo watercraft in July 2009.

Lagopoulos achieved the two world record marks piloting an Action Watercraft (Venice, FL)-backed Sea-Doo RXT iS watercraft around a 20.5-mile loop on the C-54 Canal south of Palm Bay, FL. The first of Lagoupoulos' two world records fell early in the morning on November 12th after overcoming strong winds, dark skies, and scattered rain when he completed 286 miles (460 km) at the six-hour mark with his Sea-Doo RXT iS watercraft performing flawlessly. The cold front moved through as Lagopoulos continued to log miles at over 62 mph (100 km). After riding over 17 hours with minimal stops and the sun setting, Lagopoulos was satisfied with bettering the previous mark by nearly 100 miles, and finished with 880 miles (1416 km).

Home base
(Above: Crossing nearly 900 miles in 24 hours requires quite a bit of backup. Lagopoulos had this camp set up with all the necessities to keep him and his RXT iS 255 going)

(Above: After one of several pit stops, Eric is off again)

"It was a lot harder than I thought," said Lagopoulos. "But the Sea-Doo RXT iS was the right watercraft to set these records on. The iS (intelligent Suspension system) helped minimize fatigue, the iTC (intelligent Throttle Control) helped hold a constant speed, the Rotax power kept the pace, and I used the iBR (intelligent Brake & Reverse) every time I came in for fuel stops. It was a remarkable experience."

Red Bull
(Above: Hmm...caffeine!)

Lagopoulos teamed with the legendary Pro Football quarterback Boomer Esiason and the Boomer Esiason Foundation for "Project Dream" to raise money for the research and treatment of children afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis.

(Above: The numbers speak for themselves. Topping out at 70.2 mph and averaging 55 mph, Eric made quick time of the multiple world records)

Presented by Monster Energy, R. MacClugage wins Pro-Am Women Ski,
Ellmers wins third straight in Pro-Am Women Runabout

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.—Austria’s Kevin Reiterer in Pro Ski, New Zealand’s Sam Harvey in Pro Runabout and Brazil’s Alessander Lenzi in Pro Freestyle were the Pro champions crowned during Sunday’s finale of the 28th Annual quakysense International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) World Finals, presented by Monster Energy.

Held on Lake Havasu and featured nearly 650 entries from 31 States and 36 nations, the quakysense IJSBA World Finals, presented by Monster Energy, IJSBA World Championship titles were presented in a total of 41 closed-course racing classes, four slalom classes as well as Pro Freestyle and Amateur Freestyle during the week-long event.

The race site for the 11th consecutive year was at the purpose-built Aqua Stadium on the grounds of the Crazy Horse RV Resort and Campgrounds in the Arizona resort of Lake Havasu City.

Reiterer, of Wiener Leustadt, was in just his third world finals and captured his first IJSBA Pro Ski World Championship by finishing second and first in a Hydrospace watercraft in the two 12-lap motos that featured a total of 20 riders.

In winning his third world championship of this event (Pro-Am Ski Limited and Pro-Am Grand Prix), Reiterer grabbed the hole shot in the day’s final moto ahead of first moto winner Steven Dauliach of France and held on to capture his first Pro Ski gold medal. Dauliach, who currently resides in Dubai and was a two-time IJSBA Pro Ski World Champion, claimed the silver medal in another Hydrospace with his 1-2 moto finishes. Earning the bronze medal in Pro Ski was France’s Jean Baptiste Botti with 5-3 finishes on a Kawasaki.

“I can’t realize it now,” said Reiterer. “This is my third time here. I was a junior my first time here and this time it was pretty good. I want to thank my dad because without him, I wouldn’t even be riding jet skis. I hope I can come back here again every year of my life and race because it is my life.”

Harvey, of Auckland, captured his first IJSBA Pro World Championship in Pro Runabout, came from behind on a Sea-Doo to finish second and then first in the 14-lap motos in the 16-boat field. In the final moto Harvey got the hole shot, but was passed at the start by two-time defending race champion and first moto winner Craig Warner, who held the lead until engine problems slowed him down on the ninth lap, giving up the lead to Harvey for good.

While Harvey won the gold medal in Pro Runabout Open, the silver went to Australia’s Anthony Antees with a pair of third-place moto finishes on a Sea-Doo and the bronze was claimed by Chris MacClugage, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., with 5-2 moto finishes on a Yamaha.

“Awesome,” shouted Harvey after he brought his boat to the shore. “Finally -- finally we’ve done it after 10 years of coming to the IJSBA World Finals. We were fortunate in the end but this team has been great all weekend and it feels good. Without my father, I wouldn’t be here and this is for him more than anyone.”

Lenzi, of Jaragua De Sul, who won his second IJSBA World Championship in Pro Freestyle after returning for to Lake Havasu to compete for the first time since winning his initial gold medal in 2001, maneuvered his Yamaha personal watercraft through a creative two-minute acrobatic routine, earning a title-winning 49.0 score (out of 50.0 possible). The exuberant Lenzi outdistanced a veteran field of 12 freestylists that included Japan’s two-time defending champion Fumikazu Watanabe who finished second with a score of 48.2.

“It was really okay,” said Lenzi as he celebrated on the shore with his competitors. “I had a problem with the power in the middle of the two minutes but I was able to put many tricks together and won and that was the important thing. I’m very, very happy.”

Under mostly sunny skies, light breezes, air temperatures hovering in the high 90s and fairly mild water conditions, the final eight 2009 IJSBA World Championships were decided Sunday.

In addition to the three Pro classes, the other 2009 IJSBA World Champions crowned Sunday were Blaine Spires, Gardnerville, Nev. (2-1) (Pro-Am Runabout 800SS-Sea-Doo), Rachel MacClugage, Lake Havasu City, Ariz. (England) (3-2) (Pro-Am Women Ski Limited-Hydrospace), Kylie Ellmers, Melbourne, Australia (1-1) (Pro-Am Women Runabout Limited-Sea-Doo), Quinten Bossche, Oostende, Belgium (1-1) (Junior Ski 13-15 Stock-Hydrospace) and Joseph Edwards, Doncaster, England (1-1) (Junior Ski 10-12 Stock-Hydrospace).

It was the first IJSBA Pro-Am World Championship for both Spires and MacClugage while Ellmers won her class for the third straight year.

Of the 47 IJSBA World Championships won, a total of 12 different countries won IJSBA World Championships this year. Leading the way was England with nine gold medals, followed by the USA with seven, Kuwait (6), Thailand and Austria (5 each) and Australia and Canada with four each.

The results of the 2009 IJSBA Nation’s Cup will be posted later tonight on www.ijsba.com.

quakysense is the world’s leader in competition wetsuits and has a display featuring these and a wide variety of accessories.

Monster Energy have brought an expanded entertainment experience to this year’s festival complete with their display and hospitality vehicles, stage, Monster Girls and increased sampling opportunities.

The massive racing extravaganza was once again being held in the shadow of the original London Bridge on the offshoot waters of the Colorado River. Lake Havasu City is also celebrating “London Bridge Days” this week.

Another highlight of the final day was the Sea-Doo X-Team “Brake the Bank” Bounty event with over $20,000 in contingency and prize money available to Sea-Doo watercraft racers winning select classes. Winning the Bounty one-lap challenge and earning a $1,000 Sea-Doo bonus on Sunday was multi-time IJSBA World Champion Eric Lagopoulos, Sarasota, Fla., who also won the 2009 IJSBA World Championships in Pro-Am Runabout Open Slalom this week.

Joining quakysense as a major sponsor of the event for the first time since 2004 is the Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau. Presenting sponsor is Monster Energy.
